School Profile Kensico School has approximately 400 students in Grades 3-5 (ages 8-11). There are 18 classes, plus one self-contained special education class. We also host 3 TSP (Therapeutic Support Program) classes operated by Southern Westchester BOCES. Kensico School opened in 2001 and is the newest school in our district. It replaces Columbus Avenue School (built in 1919) as the district's 3rd to 5th grade building. Each grade has its own wing, and many of the rooms have exposed wooden beams and vaulted ceilings. There is a large cafeteria, beautiful library, state of the art computer lab, science lab, music facilities, a stage, and a large gymnasium that is also utilized for the volleyball and basketball programs from Valhalla Middle/High School. The school grounds include a large playground area, a walking track, baseball/softball fields, and two ponds (one natural and one man-made). • Directory Map of Kensico School—shows whose classroom is where as well as where different services are located in the building. • Photo Tour of Kensico School—take a photographic tour around Kensico School, with written descriptions by Mr. Wright's 2005-6 3rd Grade class. • The Building of Kensico School—a scrapbook in words and pictures of the planning and construction of Kensico School, from groundbreaking to moving in. • How Kensico School Got Its Name—a speech written by Sal J. Miele, Principal, for the opening day of Kensico School.
